Witches.

The witches significance.

I think the witches in Macbeth are used to emphisis Macbeths darker side. At the begining of the play, Macbeth is see as a noble-man, a good honest warrior who fought for Scotland.

The witches simply, as they say "plant seeds" that in turn slowly pull Macbeth over to the "Dark side" prehaps without Macbeth even knowing. Macbeth even gets refered to as "Black Macbeth" throughout the play, he slowly becomes more evil in the things that he does for example setting murderers after Banquo, Fleaunce, Macduff and Macduff's son and wife. With each visit from the witches Macbeth seeingly gets worse.

I think the witches are a representation of Destiny, and a set path that has been chosen for you.

In the play, you could argue whether Macbeth would have killed King Duncan to become king if it hadn't been for the witches interference. Would he even have known that he would be in line for King? Well my argument is this, Maybe Macbeth's path was to meet these witches, maybe he had no choice, he was destined to kill Duncan the way that he did and to gradually become evil.

At one point Macbeth even said himself that if the witches didn't give him the information that he wanted he would curse them forever. This could possibly connote the fact that Macbeth has become the things he calls "old hags", a witch himself.

I think that the relevence of the witches is just to show Macbeths venture into the dark side.

    I like the questions, very dramatic lol. apart from the 'few' (bahaha) mistakes I like your points. i like the reference to Macbeth becoming more like the witches in an evil way

    I think Macbeth still would of killed the King because even Hecat says he is "Spiteful and Wrathful, who, as others do, Loves for his own ends ,not for you"

    good point, and i think the same about Macbeth being in contrast of himself first hes the good guy now hes evil and corrupt :)

    hmm so dan are u saying that you are in love with Macbeth and want Lady macbeth out of the picture so you're love can grow?

    GOOD POINTS BTW, TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT HOW'S HE GOTTEN DARKER BUT I DONT THINK ITS COMPLETELY TO DO WITH THE WITCHES BUT HEY HO!

    i mean if you're not ready to admit your love for macbeth then thats fine, i just want some clarification thats all.. you know just THROWING THE IDEA OUT THERE, THATS ALL..

    i like the point you made about macbeth being destined to meet the witches rather than the witches interfering with his destiny. i never thought of it like that :)

    AND NOW ONTO SERIOUS STUFFS:
    i like the idea that it was destined for him to meet the witches etc. because it sort of shows that they are interlinked and it is bigger than all of them put together, FIGHT THE POWER YEAHHHHH
    who here likes Banquo, i though he was a good one.

    TBH im just happy that you agree with what im saying :D But Thankyou :). Also i dont think i wanner know what goes on on that side of the classroom, but then again, Manpreet and me.... lolz

    I think you've made a damn good link with Macbeth and the witches- i hadnt thought of it like that. Macbeth becoming the very thing that he despises.You could definately talk of how he slowly nearing the end of the play morphs into the evil creatures.

    I agree with you, with the point that it was destined for Macbeth. Absolutely- Witches interfernce or not-if it is supposed to happen, it will,one way or the other.

    I like your point about the witches representing destiny. So it's not Macbeth's fault because it was destined to happen?
